Seminar on Role of Edible Oil on Health


A seminar on Role of Edible Oils on Health was held on April 09, 2016 coinciding with World Health Day at State University of Bangladesh (SUB), Dhaka, which was organized by the Public Health Department of the University and was sponsored by MPOC, Dhaka Office. About 200 participants comprising of Faculty Members, Professors, Senior Teachers of the university and students especially from the department of public health of the university attended the seminar. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Iftekhar Ghani Chowdhury of the university was present in the seminar as Chief Guest.

The international seminar titled ‘Role of Edible Oil on Health’ began with the welcoming remarks by Dr. Nawzia Yasmin, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Public Health, SUB. Professor Dr. Shah Md. Keramat Ali, former Director of Clinical Nutrition, Institute of Nutrition & Food Science, Dhaka University presented the Keynote speech highlighting the role of palm oil in meeting country’s edible oil demand, while Mr. Mohd. Muslimin, Manager, Science & Environment Division, MPOC HQ, Malaysia and Dr. Nadira Mehriban, Alumni, Department of Public Health, SUB, Dhaka both spoke on beneficial attributes of palm oil. Regional Manager of Bangladesh and Nepal, MPOC Mr. A. K. M. Fakhrul Alam, spoke on global production, trade and consumption of oils and fats vis-à-vis oils and fats import and consumption in Bangladesh highlighting the role of palm oil. The seminar ended with vote of thanks conveyed by the Treasurer of the University Major General (Rtd.) Mohd. Shahjahan.
